A good web designer is supposed to have certain qualities.
Firstly, a good web designer is one who has passion. So this is the sort of person who just loves designing websites – you know, the sort of person who would be willing to do web design even for free (if that is what it took), just because he loves the art. Therefore a good web designer is a person who views web design as an art, and one who actually loves the art.
Secondly, a good web designer is one who has all the necessary skills. And this is not just a question of having the skills, but also ensuring that the skills are up-to-date (this being a rather dynamic field). You often come across people who have good web design skills that, unfortunately, are outdated. This is where, for instance, you may encounter a fellow who claims to be a good web designer, yet he knows nothing about CSS3 or other emerging technologies.
Thirdly, a good web designer is one who has some experience. Some aspects of web design can only be learnt through experience. Making good use of the various web design tools, for instance, requires experience. Thus, a good web designer has the requisite experience — and a portfolio to prove it.
Fourth, a good web designer is one who is also a problem solver. Web design assignments often require the designer to solve intricate problems. A good web designer has the skills to analyze the problems presented in web design assignments, and then come up with appropriate solutions to such problems.
Fifth, a good web designer is one who is able to handle people well. This means, for starters, that a good web designer is an individual with good communication skills. Further, the good web designer is an individual who cares about others’ feelings and is able to handle others in a manner that ensures that their feelings are not hurt.
